Payments giant Mastercard and cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase independently announced their partnership on Tuesday. Mastercard stated that the company is “making it easier for everyone to buy NFTs”, explaining:
We are pleased to announce today that we are partnering with Coinbase to allow people to use their Mastercards to shop at Coinbase's upcoming NFT marketplace.
“Engaging more people securely is perhaps the best way to help the NFT market thrive,” noted the payments giant, explaining:
Mastercard sees even greater potential for the technology underlying NFTs to go beyond art and collectibles in many other areas.
Coinbase announced in October of last year that it is launching an NFT marketplace. The company described “Coinbase NFT” as “a peer-to-peer marketplace that will make it easier than ever to mint, buy, display and discover NFTs.”
The Nasdaq-listed cryptocurrency exchange detailed: “We are making NFTs more accessible by creating user-friendly interfaces that put complexity behind the scenes. We’re adding social features that open up new avenues for conversation and discovery. And we will exponentially grow the creator community, a win-win for artists and fans alike.”
